Our Assets
Building
and Grounds
St.
Anskars was erected in phases between 1962
and 1982. The main level consists of a sanctuary
capable of seating more than 250 worshipers, a
chapel, and a parish hall with complete kitchen
facilities. The parish hall, chapel with
columbarium and sanctuary are accessible to
people who have handicaps as is a restroom that
was built especially for people with handicaps.
The church and chapel are air-conditioned.
There
are additional upper level rooms designated as a
nursery, church office and a rectors
office. There are two upper level multi-purpose
classroom/meeting rooms currently used for the
childrens worship center. The lower level
consists of large multi-purpose commons and nine
other multi-purpose rooms some are used
for our Attic Treasures sale, and the church teen
group uses one. These additional rooms are not
currently handicap accessible.
Most
of the building is heated using a natural gas/hot
water system that is zone controlled for the
office, classrooms and parish hall. The church
and chapel are heated using a natural gas/forced
air system. Building construction is brick and
concrete on steel.
The
church building rests on slightly less than five
acres located in suburban Rockford. The city
provides fire, ambulance and police protection.
The church is located on a major four-lane
east-west street and single-family homes neighbor
the property.
A
number of capital projects have recently been
completed. The roof covering the entire building
is less than five years old. The ceiling and
lighting in the parish hall is less than two
years old. Additional lighting was installed in
the sanctuary less than two years ago. A new lawn
shed was recently erected. The parish financed
all of these projects and, as a result has no
liens or mortgages.
Looking
forward, the parish has a capital plan that
currently includes replacing the parking lot and
improving outside entrance lighting. A capital
fund drive is underway to help finance these
projects.
